Amanda Chase Judges ISBA Mock Trial Competition

Last week, our very own attorney Amanda Chase helped judge the 2021 Illinois State Bar Association State Mock Trial Competition. This year is the very first time the competition was held virtually on Zoom. The winning team of the state invitational advanced to represent Illinois and compete at the National Championship.

The mock trial problem was People of the State of Illinois v. Jordan Markson, a fictional case utilized to emphasize the importance of not taking medications without medical supervision and demonstrating the dangers of not taking prescription medication appropriately and as prescribed. Chase, a former mock trial teacher, was impressed with the event’s uniqueness and the students’ performance.

“Each student was performing from their own home,” Chase said. “It was beautifully choreographed, with students appearing on screen, like a Zoom call, at the time of their role as attorney or witness.”

Chase helped judge the student plaintiff and defense teams on their opening statements, questioning witnesses, cross-examinations, and closing arguments. The high school students were evaluated based upon their preparation, knowledge delivery, poise relevance, and focus, amongst other factors.

Strellis and Field is immensely proud of our attorneys like Amanda, who value giving back to the community and educating and preparing the next generation of legal professionals. If you would like to learn more about the ISBA High School Mock Trial, click here.
